Domaine Terre Inconnue, Cuvée Léonie, Languedoc

IMG_3399

This garage wine estate of the Languedoc is a phantom I’ve been chasing for years; or rather which is haunting me for years. I’ve known it from a wine store in Montpellier, where it wasn’t available anymore after a short period of time. Then I saw it again in Paris in a certain wine store near the Madeleine, where I tried it and found it to be the best Languedoc wine I’ve ever had. This was in 2002 and since then I haven’t seen it anymore, but it always came back to my mind and I developed a craving for it.
In 2003 I even attempted to visit directly the estate, but in the small village of St- Sériès nobody knew about S. Creus or about Terre Inconnue.

Now during my recent trip to Montpellier I’ve found one wine store which had all the cuvees of Terre Inconnue and of course I had to buy one and bring it back to Germany.
I opened Cuvée Léonie for Christmas’ Eve to match a nice roast lamb and was impressed by its intensity and depth, its dark fruity and herby flavor and powerful backbone and still relatively young tannins. This was the sip I took when I decanted it to check whether it was corked or “drinkable”.
Unfortunately when we had dinner, the fireplace didn’t want to start and developed lots of smoke which found its way to my nose and made it impossible to smell the same nice aromas again for the evening. The result is that we finished the bottle without fully enjoying it and I don’t really have a reliable opinion about it.

My craving isn’t satisfied and I guess my chase for Terre Inconnue continues…

The Club!

This is not a real Club! Rather a virtual club permitting to share wine impressions with a wider public. Further, I’ll post on restaurants and anything well-tasting. Comments and discussions are most welcome!
