2006 Grüner Veltliner Unfiltriert, Kurt Angerer, Kamptal, Austria

Nice bottle we drunk at a cosy wine bar. Very special kind of GV, more Burgundian in style. Aged in barriques and thus quite buttery and oaky - but very well integrated oak. Very smooth and creamy, rich in taste and with a long finish. Actually not easily recognizable as a GV since the typical peppery note (or "Pfefferl") was missing here. I think I wouldn't have recognized the varietal if it was a blind tasting.

Hi Alex......I have been trying a few GV's over the last few months..and like Rieslings in Germany..there is a wide range of styles.....but I find all of them pleasing..and excellent pairing with food....generally less acidity than most Riesling....and that lingering smokiness is very attractive....must get more for the, 'hopefully', lange Sommer

You'd definetely like this one Barry. Something between Condrieu, Burgundy and California, rather Burgundian though. Some GV's can have high acidity though I think..

The Club!

This is not a real Club! Rather a virtual club permitting to share wine impressions with a wider public. Further, I’ll post on restaurants and anything well-tasting. Comments and discussions are most welcome!
